Authorities are investigating a deadly motorcycle accident that left one person dead and another injured in the Town of Hounsfield.
According to the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office, the crash occurred on Saturday afternoon along Jericho Road when a group of motorcyclists were traveling southbound. Investigators say two riders lost control and slid onto the right shoulder of the roadway.
One of the motorcyclists, 20-year-old Patrick McGrew of Watertown, struck a pickup truck during the incident. Another rider, 33-year-old Cheyenne Middlemiss of Evans Mills, collided with a mailbox.
Emergency responders arrived at the scene and provided immediate assistance. McGrew was transported to Samaritan Medical Center for emergency treatment, but officials later confirmed he succumbed to his injuries.
Middlemiss was also treated at the scene before being transported to a local airport and airlifted to Upstate Medical Hospital in Syracuse. Authorities report that Middlemiss is currently in stable condition.
The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office confirmed that the investigation remains ongoing as deputies work to determine the exact circumstances that led to the crash. Investigators are reviewing evidence and gathering additional information from witnesses.
